Insurance Claim Question

I was in a minor collision last night in which the other driver was at fault.
We exchanged details and I called the Gardai, but there was no need for them to call to the scene as there was relatively little damage and no injuries.
I rang my insurance company and got a call back this morning.
The operater took the details and then gave me two choices as how to claim.
Claim from my own insurance and they'll get the ball rolling as regards getting my car fixed straight away and then seek to get a reimbursement from the other drivers insurance.
    Or.
Claim from the other insurance company directly myself and let them sort it out.
Disadvantage of claiming through my own insurance, is that its a claim against my own policy untill they are reimbursed and I have an excess to pay.If theres any difficulty with the other company as regards liability, I'm left hanging in limbo.
Disadvantage of claiming directly through the other company is that I'm waiting for them to do an investigation, where the other driver may not admit liability and Im left waiting for my car to be repaired.
There are one or two other minor differences, but the ones I've outlined above, are the main ones that concern me.
    What would you lads recommend?
    Claim from my own insurance?
    Or claim from his directly?
I havn't rung his company yet as wanted some advice.
    Thanks

Get an estimate and give it to 3rd party. If there's no hastle why not do it that way.

    Problem solved itself really.
His insurance company just called. He's admitted liability and they're willing to get the car repaired at a garage of my choice. They've just got to send out an accessor from their own garage to look at the car and we'll take it from there.

    Great news OP.

It's quite common for liability to be disputed on clear cut liability incidents and not uncommon for insurers to thoroughly investigate matters either.
