To architect or not!

    Hi,

I am considering a simple extension to my semi-d house. I have an end house and was thinking of a two story extension at the side of the house.

    Main goal: extra bedroom upstairs
Secondary goal: extra living room and natural light downstairs.

This would involve moving a downstairs utility room and bathroom.

My question is this, is it worth getting an architect for such a small job? My main goal is to keep costs to an absolute minimum and save a desire to get large windows to improve natural light downstairs everything will be kept to a minimum. Can anyone advise the cost/benefit of using an architect for such a job and the expected cost of one?

    Thanks
    W
