    Hey Guys,

Not usre if this is the right place, modes please if needed.

My girlfiriend and i had sex on new years night, unfortunately the condom broke and i came inside here.

She has got the morning after pill today which is 36-40 hours later and she has told me that she is not ovulating until the 7 of january.

What are the chances we are ok and dont get pregnant?

    Thanks in advance

OP, there never are guarantees, but as the morning after pill can be taken up to 72 hrs after unprotected sex, it can still be effective. We cant give medical advice here, so you are best to speak to a pharmacist or a doctor for the full picture.

Its also no harm to discuss an additional method of contraception with your girlfriend and GP in case condoms fail again.

Women vary OP and no two women will be the same so giving advice on similar situations is fruitless. Google this for further information. I would say you will be safe enough.

Waiting it out it all you can do, sometimes it can bring a period on early some time it can delay it so you could be waiting anything from 2 to 6 weeks for a period to happen.

    Hey OP,

I got it 2 days after having sex. It's ok up to 72 hours apparently but the MAP isn't 100% all the time, even when taken straight away.

I think you'll be grand though. If you're still worrying ask her to take a clear blue test, they will tell you really early, even before your period is due.

    Best of luck.

This happened to me a few weeks ago, I got the morning after pill 38 hours after.

It worked fine, my period was delayed by 1 week! so tell your girlfriend not to panic if period does not arrive on time, if it goes over a week you will need to take a pregnancy test.

That was my experience however a friend of mine also took the morning after pill and she now has a two year old, so different for everyone.

My intention was not to be condescending, I have no idea what age you are. I probably should not have used the word 'again'.

Not everybody reads a thread to give advise, some read your thread looking for information.

My thoughts were that you have brought up an important topic and some don't realise that STDs and unwanted pregnancies can be prevented, by taking certain care with the contraceptives.

When I was working in London as a young adult, a female doctor gave me this advise about condoms (I can't take the pill). I have been with my OH for 14 years and have only ever used condoms as a contraceptive. We have two children and they were both planned and the oldest is 7.

So not trying to insult, just trying to help:)

I don't know if you are aware, but there is a new 5 day morning after pill, which is much more effective than the previous one. It just might be the case that this is the one that was prescribed / taken. You could have a look online and see?

    Best of luck OP.
