Tesco is on hold as human remains were found, seems there was an old burial ground there for those who died from suicide etc. IE. weren't deemed suitable for a good Catholic burial back in the day.

Construction won't go ahead until the remains are moved.

Where in the name of God did you hear that? Its a fibre optic cable that needs to be moved to create the link to Dunnes Stores thats causing an issue. Its amazing what crazy rumours go around.

Heard it from someone who works in the town, sounded plausible enough.

It's gas though-Dunnes can get fibre optic but the residents of the town can't.

I can't see moving fibre optic cable holding up works of that scale.I've seen similar being done & it took about a day or two's work.

AFAIK the plans for redevelopment in Gorey & a ring/link road posted somewhere in this forum. All the answers the op needs should be there.

I thought it was the link road to Dunne's rather than a fibre optic link he was referring to.

A live fibre optic cable could actually cost hundreds of thousands to divert. I won't go into detail here about how it could cost that much but neither the developer or the owner of the cable want to foot the bill for it. I'd imagine talks are underway to get it sorted.

How did they not know it was there at the planning stage, before the building process began? Somebody cocked up big time there. Aldi was held up for a long time too because of similar poor investigation.

So Tesco can't make progress with their building because Dunne's fibre needs to be moved... I'd imagine the property people in Dunne's have known about this for a long time and have just played a clever game to cause as big a delay / as much compensation as possible.

On a side note, I wish the council hadn't given permission for the new Tesco. There are already plenty of supermarkets in the town including their own. Surprisingly little office space for a town that markets itself as the centre of business for the area...

The cable doesnt belong to Dunnes, it belongs to Eircom. It is located under where the roundabout that will link the road between Tesco at McCurtain St and Dunnes is planned to be located. It may not be deep enough, it may be in the wrong place. For whatever reason, it is now causing a delay. Fibre optic cables are extremely delicate and if they are damaged or disrupted, the liquidated damages run at thousands of euro per hour, mainly due to loss of business and disruption to service which could be claimed from the Contractors Public Liability insurance policy. The developer could be looking for the cable to be relocated and protected which Eircom may not want to pay for.
And no it is not as simple as some have alluded to.
But hey, if you want to believe the ancient burial ground story, then go ahead. Maybe it does sound better.

The cable should have appeared on a map. If it is not where it should be or is not buried at the correct depth, logic would suggest the owner of the cable or their agents would bear the bulk of the responsibility. What's the point in having unreliable services maps?

Burial ground story sounds cooler but as you said it was just a rumour seeing as nothing was reported in the press.

Its another secondary school behind the secondary school. Creagh college are in a temporary building and this will be their permanent home. Speculation is that the CBS primary will move up to the existing building which is a permanent building but just lacking specialist rooms like science, home ec, woodwork et al.

Eh yea ... the Carriageway that I was mentioning is the the 'Arklow to Rathnew' project.

    http://www.nra.ie/RoadSchemeActivity/WicklowCountyCouncil/N11ArklowtoRathnew/SchemeName,16415,en.html

I know there was a thread on here when it was announced, said contruction was supposed to start Jan 2013. The status is Tender but anyone else know anything ?

wonder how much it could shave off a drive to dublin !

oh god, if theres any construction anywhere in ireland, let them finish that road from arklow to rathnew!!!! for the love of god, allah and krishna!!! :D:D:D:D;)

on the new tesco, the only good thing to come from it will be the link road from the avenue to the monument. obviously the new build brings jobs etc etc but its going to bring a lot of pressure to already suffering SME in town.

new road layout at monument / old leather factory road + enniscorthy road

    Amen to that!

Not necessarily for the reduction in traveling time but for the (hopefully) reduction in minor fender benders that hold traffic up and the clearing of the bottle-neck on Fridays in the summer at The Beehive!

I'll start the digging meself if it speeds things up.
