    Morning all,
Was considering buying a 2008 Mazda 3 MPS later this month and I wanted to confirm the tax cost. On one website, it was reported as having emissions of 224g/km, which sets the tax at €1200. That's bad enough, but another website reported 245g/km, which puts it in the €2,350 bracket, which is a step too far.

The rates themselves I got from here.

If anyone out there owns one or has owned one, can you please confirm the motor tax rate for me?

Irrespective of what any site says, you will be VRT'd on the emissions as stated on the VLC/V5C with the actual car - what does that say it is ? - anything else is irrelevant tbh..

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Depends on the model you are looking at.
It maybe a 08 car but registered on the older system, which was 900 odd.

The new mk2 3MPS comes in just under the highest bracket which is 224g/km the mk1 is just above it.

But as ive already said most of the 3MPS's registered in ireland in 08 stayed on the cheaper older system as they were registered before july.

Cannot understand why the motortax.ie have removed the feature of checking the rates by reg number.

EDIT: Im assuming you are looking at an already reg'd car.

You could always buy a 2007 MPS where the tax will be either €994 or €1034 and save yourself a possible few grand for the same car.

    Here's one on Carzone - http://www.carzone.ie/search/Mazda/Mazda6/2.3-MPS-/32013548812773180/advert?channel=CARS

Is the car on Irish plates?

It's coming up as 231g/km for me...

And from the horses mouth, if you will...

"CO 2 emissions: 231g/km, meeting Euro Stage IV regulations"

That's what I couldn't find before. It's already on Irish plates, so according to this is €994 for the year. Steep, but less a kick in the knackers than I was looking at (€2.3k).

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'll give the dealer a shout next week and confirm the tax rate. There's one showing online, but it has no number plate in the picture. Wonder if it's even been registered. Also showing at a crazy price (€15,950).

Aye, the interior appears to be missing a few buttons all right. There's another one for just under €10k at Sarsfield Motors, 40k on the clock. Might take a look at that one.
