Looking to spend a week in Thailand to recharge the batteries and to work on my tan.

Looking for somewhere quiet and relaxing not too touristy though a bar or 2, and possibly a beach or river to swim.

    Anyone with any suggestions?

    Cheers.

tbh, if your gonna go through all the hassle of getting there & the cost/expense, it doesnt make sense to go there for just a week. By the time you get over your jet lag, find your way around your surroundings it will nearly be time to go home again.

Most places that are worthwhile going to are a bit touristy. If you dont want to go to these places the other areas are usually very impoverished, very poorly maintained.

Most places down south are good for a visit so you should probably get a direct flight to Phuket because Bangkok is a bit mental & not what you would be looking for at all. The islands around these areas down south are something else also

Koh samui is great - not too touristy.

Koh Tao - similar but less developed (even though Koh Samui isn't very developed in the first place)

have not been to phuket ...but I will suggest you stay away from Bangkok (just a busy city) and Pattaya (old men - young boys/girls ... unless you are into that kinda thing)

if you go up north of the country - Chiang Mai - traditionally its wetter but a more relaxed place and less touristy

I visited over ten years ago, so can't vouch for the place now, but a friend of mine has recently bought an apartment in Hua Hin and was singing its praises recently. Hua Hin is a beach resort frequented mainly by Bangkok residents and locals, although there is a fair bit of european tourism there as well.

I makes a nice change from the islands

I stayed in the Fulay B&B, which was a bit of an unusual experience.

Precisely where I was going to suggest. It's on the mainland and not much more than an hour by road from Bangkok. Hua Hin is not just frequented by Bangkok residents, the second royal palace was there and they spend quite a lot of time in Hua Hin. We stayed at the Dusit resort there and the queen arrived at the hotel one night and we got to meet her!

It's very relaxing, good beach, nice hotels, good food and drink and nowhere near as touristy as the islands.

Cheers everyone, looking at HH looks good, maybe a tad expensive have a budget of 35 euro a day so not sure if it will be enough. Anyone got any cheaper locations.

Was in Thailand already so i know the islands and they're not what im looking for. Im about 3 hours by flight away from Bangkok so i said I'll spend a week before moving on to where i really want To go.

Hua hin is fine but a lot of older Europeans stay there, have a look at koh Chang was there two years ago and it was fantastic, you'll survive no bother on €35 a day, there's plenty of quiet beach areas.. And beach bars
