We might be lucky enough to withness such a rare event next year, comet 209P/LINEAR could give us rates of between 400-1000 meteors/hr

If we get storm levels on a clear night it will be a show of a lifetime.

I was lucky enough to see the 2001 Leonids from a dark spot in North America at a ZHR of several hundred per hour. One of the most amazing sights you can see. Meteor showers are notoriously fickle though and it sounds like they'd need to firm up on the predictions before it was worth going out of your way to see this one.

Apparently the earth will pass through the tail of the new Comet ISON in January 2014 which may produce a meteor stream also. If ISON doesn't survive it's close encounter with the sun and become a "Great Comet", at least we might get a bit of a fireworks display out of it.
