Hi lads, ive just being think, most of us are enjoying the competition of the mix bag but it will be over in 4 weeks, hearing reports of low pheasant numbers all over so I was thinking we should do a vermin competition to help birds. get a plate made up and away we go.
    what ye think?

Well im on my county RGC council will we use the vermin counting scheme they use? very simple and fair, Person with most points at the end wins?:)

They mark as follows, Mink 1000, Fox 1000, Grey Crow, 500 Mag 500, Crow 100, Rabbit, 100, Pigeon 100, Grey squirrel 200.

We could do a leader board like already done telling people who has what maybe prizes for 1st 2nd and 3rd.

I reckon we should go to the 1st of Sept Or 1st November when the mixed bag competition restarts?

My thinking would be to have it before the season starts so we can take the numbers down. To give the birds a chance. Is that the main objective.

You need to decide on a finish date. If ye want to run a mixed bag competition again next year I think starting that in November is the best thing as that's when everything is in season.

So you could finish this competition either the end of August or end of October.

You seem to have the scoring/points system sorted.
Next you need to decide how you will record the data and how often. As this could be running 7-9 months doing a table weekly might get painful as it takes quiet a bit of time to do.

Next is how do you keep it interesting for 7-9 months?
I think you will need goals throughout the comp. Say the first person with 30 foxes will get a box of ammo for their rifle.
First person with 5 mink will get tins of sardines to attract more mink :D:D

Just throw in some fun goals to keep the craic in the competition.

Start the mixed bag on November 1st. run this until October 31st? everyone agree on points system? Id say 1st 50 foxes gets a box of ammo.
50 mink some etc.. winner gets a plate and whatever? Do a table and count every month pick a night or 2 where lads send in their pics all at once? count is done and board is redone? How do we fund prizes?

Forget about boxes of ammo , as it a licencing issue , u don't need a gun to trap vermin ,

send them all at once..it must be a right pain for dev trying to count up all that was shot in th mixed bag

Keep it from the 1st feb to the 31st Aug, 7 good month's??.
should the mink be worth more points as they are a lot harder got and fox next or maybe grey squirrel mag/greycrow(bird's) and rabbit's?? we have a point system that goes like
    mink: 50
    fox: 30
    mag&greycrow: 10
there is no squirrel's in our area but they could prob be marked 40??
i take it a date with the pic corp's.
A goal of 50 mink is a bit out of reach IMO, been at them hard the last 3 years and the most was 40(in 12month's) between 3 of us.
    just a few taught's.

I say if you do a table at the end of the month it would be fine.
That way you will have 7 tables and it will give enough of an update where as weekly things mightn't change to much and having 28 tables would be a waste.

You can add pics at any time but the pics will have to have a date on them like the mixed bag competition and things will be stricter this time on the date being required. No date = Not be counted.

I wanted to try not get caught with doing the tables for this but its only 7 tables so feck it I'll sort them out at the end of each month if everyone is ok with that.

You have a month to decide on the final list of vermin, the points, when entry will be, etc

    Species mink,fox,magpie,greycrow,grey squirrel,rabbit,crow,pigeon,jackdaw

    JUST A TAUGHT
mink, fox, grey crow, and magpie are common to 99% of everyone but pigeon's, grey squirrel's and rabbit's are not as common in certain part's or maybe not be there at all so should they be classed as a lower point's?
    mink 60?
    fox 45?
    grey's and magpie's 20?

We are still waiting on a points system for this.
Wildfowler was suppose to upload the National points system but never did.

I said I would help out by doing the tables once a month or once every two months but since WF started the thread I thought he was going to organise this with starting dates, finishing dates, dates of when people can enter, ideas for prises, points system, etc.

I'm really only able do organise/help out here at the weekends due to work so I'd be no help trying to organise this.

The mix bag was fine during the season and well run ,it would be best off leaving it as an annual competition between October 1st - January 31st and and something for the lads to have a bit of crack with during the season plus all the freezers will be empty by September when all of the clubs would have handed in their vermin.
Another competition would just water that down and lads would get board of it and Trigger would be out a fortune on engraved silver plates.
