Built up a cheap fixed gear a couple of years ago. Its a bit of a hack but it gets me to work and back. Recently the chain has been slipping and as you can see the chain isn't really sitting the the chainring very well. Any ideas? Cheers

Chain might be the wrong size for the chainring and cog. 1/8th v 1/2 v 3/32nd or something like that, I can never remember.

Thanks Raam, only problem is, its the same chain I have always had on it and it never gave me problems until now, just out of the blue it started to do this.

    Time for a new chain?

Thats what I was thinking, but as you can see in the photo, can a chain being a bit old make it sit that much off the chainring?

Maybe the rear wheel is too far to the aft? Bring it closer to the BB.

The way it's sitting on the chainring the chain looks seriously stretched - you can check by measuring the links - they should be exactly 1/2 an inch long (so 20 links should measure exactly 10 inches) - a (very) small amount of stretch is inevitable and woud not cause a problem, but that chain looks to have stretched maybe half a link over half the circumference of the chainring. Definitely needs a new chain

+1 new chain and possibly a worn chainring.

Not being smart here but i'd clean the chain and chainset first and then see how it looks. Could be the chain or chainset is badly worn.

Can't really see from the pic but it looks like the chainring may be worth replacing as well, kinda looks like some of the teeth are broken, or at least very well worn.

New chain will sort you out in the short term, but best off replacing both.
