    Happy New Year to all.

Many of us will have made resolutions to ourselves last night but most of us will end up breaking them within 6 weeks. So to keep people focused have them listed an update how many days you are off them. Personally I am going to give up alcohol. What do people think ? Is this a good idea ?

Yep, great idea and will keep us honest. Will it be a table or a spreadsheet though;)

Unless alcohol causes you major problems why would you?

Because if you want to improve, alcohol will hinder your efforts/progress... The more accomplished the runner you are, the more you will notice... (i am only starting to see the difference in performance!!)

I would disagree but If I want to make weight loss easier cutting it out will help a lot.

I wouldn't consider myself an accomplished runner by any means but if I have a few pints some night, it's always very noticeable in my performance on my next run, even if it's a few days later with loads of rest in between!

Don't drink that often these days, and considering giving it up myself for a while anyway.

Improved sleep, weight loss, more time to run as no hangovers and more time to do stuff in general! And that's after only 6 days!

well rom, I have no intention of breaking so game on;)

    ;(

:o was afraid to update my failure. When I knew I wouldn't be racing Sunday, afer my visit to physio on Friday I polished off a lovely bottle of French red to drown my sorrows. Clean again now too.
    You won that round really;)

Will call it 1 all as I did a bit of beer carb loading on Friday. Needed to get the blood sugar up cough.

Fair enough;). 24 days without any alcohol is a MAJOR feat as far as I'm concerned. Well done us!
    Clean slate for February!
For anyone else considering giving the alcohol a miss for a few weeks, you should try it. Never thought I could do it but realise now it was all just a habit and easily doable and reaps major benefits.

am knocking it on the head myself this week. i only drink beer and i have put on a major pot belly since the start of december when i started back drinking after a 6 month break away from it. within 2 months you will drop 2 stone of excess flab even without exersize, however if you do exersize you will be more likely to stay away from it as you will see the benifits as well as feeling them. plus it will help lower your cholestral also.
