Can anyone recommend a company that would retrofit a reversing camera system in a 2012 Golf? The car has the RCD510 touchscreen which is compatible with the camera but I need a company to supply and fit it.

Volkswagen won't do it for me

Is that the cam that is hidden behind the vw badge?

There wouldnt be anything major involved in fitting this. Anyone with vcds (vw diagnostics) I would have thought.

Afaik, there's a lot of wiring needed. Wires have to run from the radio to the boot essentially I think. Looked into it a wee bit myself on a passat cc. After that, it's a matter of flicking a switch with the vag diagnostics. Something I'm interested in, but the camera system (with the connection to the steering wheel ie. Shows where the car will turn based on the steering wheel angle) was awful expensive. Tell me otherwise if it's cheaper.

There are usually lots of diy guides for wiring that needs to be made up. All connector pins and blocks are available handy enough from dealers so it would just be a bit of time for the right person. I dont know what is involved in that car to have the live steering data feeding in too.

You can get the kit from kufetec.de I think - its reasonably cheap iirc. The main work involved in fitting is running the cables, removing the headunit to get access to the back - so someone like Dave Robinson (D.R Car Audio) should be able to do the majority of the slog work on it for you.

Once its all fitted, it will need coding - a VW indie would be able to do it, as would half the VAG owners around who have VCDS on their laptop. You should be able to get it done in return for some beer tokens!

The camera is about 500 quid on ebay!

Edit that Kufatec are in UK too and only 150 euro!

Yeah it's the flip out camera behind the badge. I can buy the full kit (new badge with camera attached + all wiring looms) from ebay or kufetec but fitting it is the problem, I'm useless with DIY. I'd need someone reputable to fit it, wire it properly, reprogram the computer and not make a complete mess of the car.

Another option is rear parking sensors which VW will do (will get a price tomorrow) but the camera would be so much better imo.

If you have a kit with ready made looms, its hard to go wrong. Hardest part will be swapping over the badge for the camera one. I cant recommend anyone but it really is a diy job. If you had a mate who is in to this kind of stuff, you could easily fit this.

But IIRC you have to run the video wire all the way from the boot to the dash, which would require fitting under the panels in the car all the way to the front? Don't quote me on that though. And then there's the electrics which I wouldnt have a clue about.

I wouldn't bother tbh. It'll add very little in terms of value when you sell it.

Thats hardly the point. Ive fitted it to my A5 and its pretty cool and very useful.

    Op,

Lots of decent garages could do this for you but there are also lots of garages I wouldnt let do this as too many have a habit of breaking trim clips and being a bit impatient with this type of work and leaving rattles behind them.
    Where are you based?
