Happy New Year LDF. The arguments here have been invaluable. Notwithstanding whether the argument has been due to a difference of opinion or me just being thick.

    Have a great 2013.

Technically, it isn't a new year, it is a very old one. :)

But I'll wish you a Happy New Year.

fixed that for ya, happy 2013. Don't be too hard on your self I'm depriving a village somewhere of an idiot.

And anyway only a highly educated person could have an opinion that wrong.

As he posts to the wrong forum...

Don't worry Procrastastudy, the only lawyer worth quoting in court is a dead one, until them we are all just learning.

About that convention of quoting dead legal authors only I found myself in court once against an author of a book on the topic in issue - . Kennedy on Malicious Injury.

I apologised for quoting from his book while he was alive and he graciously raised no objection

It well gone now as a convention, a mate of mine wrote a book on an area of law as its one of the main texts in the area, he has to quote from his own book all the time.

He also has had his own book quoted against him.

The other good one that I like

Is what is the difference between a good solicitor and a great solicitor?

A good solicitor knows the law

A great solicitor knows the judge

In Ireland that can have meaning on a much more profound level imo

    But there you go

    Happy new year to all
