Done Deal and Suspect Prices

Mod, is there a thread on this issue already?

Some of the cars on DoneDeal appear too good to be true....

Can anybody explain how an alleged DoneDeal scam may work? Without making allegations, the below seems a stonking bargain that should be well gone... anyone with experience offer any advice on going to view one of these?

It appears in three different locations, says its sold, then reappears..

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4353091

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4316409

    http://cars.donedeal.co.uk/sold/cars/4323994

What should one be weary of in respect of cars (generally) that show this pattern of behaviour on a carsales website?

    Anyone?

i'd steer clear op. plenty more cars out there. if it seems too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true.

its odd alright, text him and ask him is the easiest way to find out what hes up to.

There was a thread on it before with a few guesses regarding the scam but I can't seem to find it. I think someone said they were UK reg and the price excludes the VRT. Go with the old adage, "if it seems too good to be true, buy it just to be sure".

I called him; sounds genuine and the type of character who would have one of these cars. The spelling and narrative, including caps lock is a bit unsettling...he also said it was his car, a private sale if you will.

When I seen it, it elicited such a reaction out of me that it was a bargain, it makes me think how come it wasn't swiped up previously...

Anyone offer a view on how this works, as there is plenty of these cars appearing on car sales websites - sometimes with haircuts.

To be honest id go have a look if your interested, its priced to sell at least, remember there was a good few of these flood damaged. Could have timing chain problems.
It is a low price then again, it might be priced to sell fast!

    Well spotted.

He said he had it three years... could go and view, inspect the documentation and vouch against the chassis and service history.

This car would easily move at €17k if all was true.

did he explain why hes putting it up and talking it down, its a uk import with the vrt paid, cant find out when it was paid, the only scam i think that he could be doing is collecting as many deposites as he can over a day or too from different people and talking the car down for a few days so they dont see its still for sale.

I didn't put that to him as didn't see it at the time; I just called him. In and around Limerick for a few days, so may drop by Tipperary. I would take it on the spot if all was good.

Will another person ring and see how they get on? See do we get the same story?

    Limerickman to the rescue?

Actually, on the note, I wonder is there a boardsie who would look at a car with another boardsie, for a fee of course. Or is that appropriate, or even permitted to discuss here? I am in the market but do not want to get f*cked over. Looked at a 320d and it was rattling like I dunno and also leaking from the rocker cover gasket... then an A4 and it was pulling to the left, but didn't sound so bad to be honest... i dunno, i need help!

    This is my first post!
I am a used car trader in Dublin and I have access to a lot of information on uk imports through the car history check website.
I have just checked this BMW for you and it has revealed the following.

It was a one owner car when in the uk
First registered here in mar 2010
Has had 3 owners here since then
Last change of ownership oct 2012

What's interesting is the uk mileage history
    9 oct 2009. 61k miles
    5 jan 2010 70k miles
    28 mar 2010 78200 miles

I'm not making any accusations but it seems to have done zero miles from
March 2010 when it left the uk to 31 dec 2012

I would exercise caution and see if there is a verifiable service history available to contradict my history check.

    Best regards
    Car trader

    Sir, you are a god.

Why oh why do people do this. It gets the adrenaline running! I will have to save to get one of these, and pay a proper price from a dealer. In good nic, I would hope to pay no more than 17k for a spec of car like this... hopefully I am right with what I think they are worth... my boss may be upgrading and has an 09 520d m sport from new... we have mooted it before xmas... but buying off my boss... i dunno... as far as he is concerned, I am flat broke and he must give me a pay rise :)
