Am I entitled to JB?

    Hi All,

I have not been able to apply for JB this year as I was told I did not have enough contributions in 2010 although I had plenty in 2011, so to come back and apply on the 1st January as the relevant tax year was 2010 which was a year in which I was made redundant and was out of work for a while. This year I've had a bad arm break which meant I was certified off work for over six months which of course has been a big blow.

Now I'm thinking I will not be getting JB even this year looking at the rules on this. I've only been able to get temporary work for the last few years and the way it falls seem to go against me.

My employment history is (starting with most recent)
    1st November 2011 to 30th December 2011 (temp)
    16th December 2010 to 12th July 2011 (team moved)
    17th May 2010 to 30th June 2010 (temp)
    21st September 2009 to 26th February 2010 (company sold - redundancy)
    1st October 2005 to 13th November 2008 (redundancy)

From my calculations I fall just short of the requirements? In 2011 I am about half a dozen or so weeks short of PRSI contributions, and looking at the criteria, I won't be able to make them up with the other years?

If you were told by sw to come back in January 2013 then it would appear from their records that you will have enough contributions to qualify for jsb. Best thing you can do is head in on Wednesday and see what the situation is. You can apply for jsa which is a means tested payment.
