At around 8:20 am yesterday I glimpsed out my east facing kitchen window, and spotted something - I ran and grabbed my camera and 300mm lens but only managed to grab 2 or 3 frames before it disappeared behind a cloud bank. It was heading North, I am based in Donegal. What say ye?

Was it a regular looking jet? Could be anything!

Looks like the contrails are glowing in your image though?

There's not way of telling from the contrails unless it had six of them which would narrow it down to a An225. :D

You need Flightradar24 or similar on your smartphone or computer. The smartphone app has the nifty facility that you can point it at the aircraft it's type, speed, Flight level and number will be revealed.

Indeed Flightradar shows a Air France A-380 heading across Donegal yesterday at 08.30ish but it was heading south-east......

I'd say an A380 but its hard to be sure!! Usually you can pick out A380 contrails they do look quite different from anything else!

I'd say either your window is not facing east or that plane is not going north... If your window is facing east, judging by the angle I'd say plane is going east-south-east direction thus confirming what westdub is saying - it's a380, case closed.

Judging my your photo I would say 4 engines......so its most probable a B747, A340 or A380.......use flightradar24 to see what aircraft types where within 20-30 miles of your location at the time you took the photo.

I spotted an identical trail a couple of weeks back and after checking on FR24 it turned out to be an A380.

Looks more than 4 distinct trails to me, here is an A380 I took in October. Either there are 2 planes or it is a bigger engined jet than 4 engined

You can sometimes get trails from the tail wing an exhaust depending on the weather/humidity and speed I think though, I've definitly seen trails from the tail before.

Here's an amazing photo of a B737 taking off in a temp of -37 C and it's cold enough for a contrail at ground level!
