    Hi
Im trying to help a non techie friend out and Im not much help despite reading here forever. Heres the situation.

Area is Drogheda. House has a digital type aerial plus sat dish installed. Downstairs is Non Saorview plasma with old sky box for free to view (no card).
Upstairs is Samsung with internal tuner connected to aerial only and it receives
    RTE 1
    RTE 2HD
    TV3,
    TG4,
    3E,
    RTE News Now,
    RTE junior,
    RTE 1+1,
    BBC red button
    BBC 4
    BBC news
    BBC one & Two NI
    BBC Parliment
    BBC 3
    CBBC
    Cbeebies
    ch4
    4+1
    channel 5
    e4
    itv 2
    More 4,
    UTV, UTV +1.

So, she wants a box for downstairs non saorview to replace old sky box to get the saorview. Would like the box to have as many features as sky plus as possible - ie record epg series link and easy to use. Im not sure if its a saorview combi or a uk freesat box thats needed - can anyone help please and recommend a box. Im reading since november and really dont want to leave it much longer. thanks a million in advance.

would I be better to post this query in terrestrial section? Just need to know if we should replace old sky ftv with an Irish saorview combi or a UK freesat plus separate saorview box to get maximum channels. Sorry for repeating myself but would really be grateful if anyone could advise me?

Freesat is the way to go, the humax pvr is generally well received.

You could alternatively get a Freeview HD pvr since she can get both Irish and UK DTT. I've not paid any attention lately to the Saorview boxes but any made from 2013 on are required to have DVB-T2 so should receive the freeview hd channels also.

Personally I would avoid the combi boxes.

A FreeviewHD+ terrestrial receiver should allow her to watch and record both the UK Freeview and Irish Saorview channels with the correct aerial(s) attached. Series link isn't active on the Saorview channels yet, we're not sure how well a FreeviewHD+ receiver will handle Saorview series link. Also there are 1 or 2 that won't work with Saorview, be sure to check before she buys.

The new Saorview approved recorder, due in shops Jan 9th, should also work with the UK Freeview channels. Someone posted that it includes a DVB-T2 tuner.

If she can receive the UK channels via the aerial and is happy with that selection a combi satellite receiver will not be required. A Freesat receiver will not work with Saorview.

Only newly Saorview certified receivers from Jan 1st are required to include a DVB-T2 tuner, pre-2013 certified receivers can continue to be manufactured without the T2 tuner.
