There are thousands of caves in the country, is anyone aware of any program of exploration for historic finds?

Given the Brown Bear remains found in the Caves in Ailwee and the Woolly Mammoth bones found in the cave in Dungarvan....
    I'm sure there are others.

I'm just wondering if there is or was ever any program set up to find out more?

I have no idea to answer your question I am afraid but an idea occurred to me. If anyone is near to one of these extensive caves, why not get in touch with Time Team (or similar) and see what is in them that way. Perhaps one of the universities will have a paper on them?

Dr. Marion Dowd, has been looking at Irish caves from an archaeological point of view.
