    Hey,

Looking for a good cheap tablet for the other half's bday, (end of jan)
Got an iPad myself as a present and she keeps taking the shaggin thing... Cant afford the apple range at the min, plus got a lot of bills to catch up on thanks to christmas, so budget is limited.
    Any one got any recommendations?

Hand's on experience rather than spec would be nice to hear...

Would need a good App Store & VERY friendly user interface, as she's not overly tech savvy.

Special offers on big name's be nice to hear too :)

    Thanks!

Nexus 7 for €250. Haven't used it myself but very high praise for it from anyone I've talked to about. Android and google play store so that covers the good app store.

Planning on getting one myself in the future when I get the money.

There's the 64GB Blackberry Playbook, on sale for €160 at Currys online at the moment. Mine gets used for browsing and ebooks, mostly.

It has decent Flash compatibility, and the speakers are fairly powerful for a tablet. But the selection of apps isn't as good as the competition, and they're usually more expensive too. It depends on what it will be used for.

If it's a consideration, there's no Skype support for this tablet.

Have had two Ainol Elfs v 1 and v11, would recommend, about 129 usd + duty

    These are chinese tabs, when buying from China, it is important the tab has an active following, on the likes of Slatedroid ;

If you run into any issues, an active online following, makes troubleshooting/optimizing easier

There are plenty of custom roms on Slatedroid, which means you end up with a tab, running the latest version of Android

Have a look at this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056672121&page=65

Some great tablets available from the likes of hongkongeek.

TBH, most of the tablets priced around the 100-150 mark are perfectly useable. Perfect for watching movies, browsing the net, facebook etc
They are all pretty much the same, look the same and are easy to use

This is an example. Android market has loads of apps, a lot of them free, plus unlike Apple products, you can just copy movies\pics over via usb and they support flash
