Miocene Old World vulture found... in America

    Anchigyps was comparable in size to the red-tailed hawk and was not an obligate scavenger; it still had grasping talons and probably used flapping flight more than its modern day relatives.

    I think this is not the first case of an "Old World vulture" being found in the New World, but it seems to be the most primitive. It seems to have been a link between hawk and eagle-like raptors and vultures.
