    Hi,
im looking for advice regarding the cf-30. i have one that is damaged and was wondering would it be worth fixing. It has a damaged keyboard and is missing the hard drive. if it is worth doing can it be upgraded to a higher spec etc ? as you can probably tell im pretty ignorant in these matters so any help would be great.
    cheers b.

It's around €50 for the keyboard on ebay and the same again for a new SATA HDD, assuming you can do the work yourself.

It might be worth it as a netbook-style thing, but if the HDD caddy is missing as well then it I dont think it would be.

yes the whole hard drive/caddy is gone. I am presuming that is one whole unit to buy ?but i have seen youtube clips of the hard drive being replaced in the caddy. the keyboard was destroyed in seconds by the dog!!! (toughbook!!!). thanks for reply.

This is the only one I found, but I doubt it would be much cheaper anywhere else - http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Panasonic-Toughbook-CF-30-Hard-Drive-Caddy-160GB-HDD-/190523553680#ht_3141wt_1210

HDD Caddy is another approx. €170 then. I don't think it would be worth it, the approx. €300 you would spend on parts would get a new netbook or a second-hand Thinkpad.

You'll need to buy the caddy as well, they're separate units, might need to buy the fixing screws as well as they don't always come with the caddy. All can be found on ebay though.

If the keyboard's gone it might not be the only thing that needs fixing. Laptops aren't easy to upgrade, you can get more RAM, a bigger HDD, but that's about it, you'll have a job changing the CPU and the graphics card is usually part of the motherboard and not replaceable. All depends on what you want to use it for and how much you're willing to spend to see if it works.

no was not planning on touching the cpu or graphics card , as i know it was working fine until the dog ate the keyboard , the hard drive was removed and put into the replacement unit. so i just wanted to check was it a worthwhile refurb with those items reinstalled. i dont think its as special( read expensive ) as i remember it to be ! cheers b
