Type 1 is for wired connection. Direct connection with ethernet cable, it should be plug and ready to play. You shouldn't have to change any settings.

OP - if you have NAT2 I would stick with that.

PPoE and all of that when I last did it were the details from my service provider, username, password and all of that from your router settings. However a cautionary note here - when I did put all that in it bumped everything else off my network while I played - so if you have Nat2 - suggest you stick with it, have not had any issues playing with that setting.

I'd be very interested to know WHY you think you need NAT1? I don't want to sound facetious but the very fact that you ask for NAT1 rather than DMZ rings to me that you picked up on a forum somewhere[ littered on boards] saying that NAT1 is the desired config.

    It's not.

Let's start by addressing your problem. What's wrong?

Knowing that, we can assist in fixing it.

There is no NAT type 4 - I'm assuming you mean 3.
NAT 2 is perfect and if you can get that, all will be well.

    Who is you ISP?
If you're with eircom, this video has helped others out before:

Are you wired or wireless? Try wired if at all possible.

You should really port forward rather than using PPPoE and NAT 1. Older eircom modems could do PPPoE passthrough but if you have one of the black Zyxel ones it may not support it.

The older eircom Netopia modems (purple and silver modems) support PPPoE passthrough, which allows each device to establish its own PPPoE connection (and as such get its own public IP address, which is what NAT 1 is). I don't know if the new Zyxel (black) modems support it. If there's a Universal Plug and Play (or uPnP) option in your router, enable it and try the test again. If not, then you'll need to set up port forwarding. I'm not sure what ports the PS3 uses though.

Tried that PPoE method and it worked for me. Could someone explain why it worked please?
