With many people having to make a choice between mortgage and health insurance payments I was wondering what cover Boards members mostly use.

None they are all a rip off.
I use the public health system, thats what I am paying PRSI/USC/Income tax etc for.

If there is anything i need looked at urgently or something I am concerned about and want some piece of mind, I book and pay for a private consultation in or around €160. Beats the €500 excess the Health insurance companies have in place, before they cover your visits.

I used to have it but packed it in when I realised that I would have to visit my physio 10 times before they would cover half of the cost. I only needed 3 sessions.

That was it for me and health insurance.

Just my experience of it all

That was some policy you were on! I reduced my policy, switched insurer and I don't recall coming across one with such a huge excess.

I can't afford to be without it. I am on meds that cost €2,500 per month that must be given in a hospital setting. I will have to have MRIs every three months from now on, too.
