I'm looking for a good app/or online judo reference for one of my kids. I dont know judo myself but I watch my kid training and just want to be able to test him that he is remembering the names of the various moves and terms. Any I came accross tended to be graded by adult belts or were alpabetical so Ideally I'd like one that groups the moves by grade.

    Thanks

I have this app installed on my phone. Has a technique section and a terminology section where you can test your Japanese :)

I've never trained Judo myself and the MA I train in doesn't have grades/belts etc so I might be missing the importance of being tested on names etc but...

Surely if its a kid then that he enjoys training in Judo is the most important thing? If they enjoy it then they'll remember the names and the terminology anyway, much more so than tests or 'homework'. As in, I can remember the theme tune to captain planet a lot better than I remember how to calculate Orthogonal Trajectories.

Ill give it a go, apart from the fact that kids have half belts are all the junior positions in there somewhere?

I sort of agree but I caught the end of the last grading and some of the kids knew the moves but got mixed up when asked to do a particular one.

I know what you mean, judo isn't my martial (karate is) and you don't have to know what the moves are in Japanese for the first few felts but for green belt you need to know the Japanese.

Before our last gradings I spent a half hour going through the japanese for moves with a few members of our club.

It can easily happen but they will remember the names a lot better by paying attention in training than cramming. If you want help them show up watch the training and immediatley after training ask questions, that move you did at this stage was cool whats it called, rather than some sort of test.

    At least thats my opinion.

Agreed, but to be fair there's very little importance placed on students knowing the Japanese names for the various techniques in Judo.
