I have a 2002 Yaris and recently the inbuilt radio just stopped working. The clock display still works but when I turn on radio button nothing happens. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Doing a 5 hour journey without it yesterday was not fun!!!

First and easiest thing tp check is the fuse

If your radio is the cassette model then these do give a lot of trouble. I have repaired many and usually it is the BA regulator chip that needs to be replaced.

I'll check first whether or not the fuse has gone although wouldn't it be on the same one as the clock which still works?

It is the cassette model, is there any chance that it could be caused by a loose connection somewhere? I read someplace that the wires at the back of the radio aren't very secure and can become disconnected if you go over a bump or something. I had been driving on some very rough roads when I noticed it wouldn't come on anymore.

I can guarantee you that your radio fault is not caused by a loose connection. There is no way that the connections of which there are 3 in total can become loose or dislodged from the back of the radio.
Why not try a breakers yard for a similar replacement unit?

I had a yaris and the same thing happened. A quick google revealed it as a common fault and the unit is fecked.
Had planned on changing the radio anyway so got a standard radio on special in halfords.
Simple DIY job to change over.
