Does my employer have to give me notice?

I am coming to the end of my third 6 month contract with company (I am contracted into company via agency).

Do they have to give me notice that they won't be extending my contract? Or can they simply tell me on the last day?

    Cheers.

Out of courtesy they should tell you but as it is a fixed term contract, when its finished, it's finished and the employer is not required to do anything but pay you what you are owed.

I finished an 8 month contract recently and the HR department sent me a letter to confirm my end date about a month before I finished. I don't think it's something an employer has to do, but it's nice to have something in writing as a courtesy.

If I'm reading this right the agency is your employer and is recharging you to the company you work in if that makes sense.

The agency should be more helpful, and the company is probably assuming the agency is fully looking after you and is probably oblivous to you not getting a prompt on your end date.

But, as has been said above if it's a fixed term contract the end date is known. Hopefully (don't want to get your hopes up), it's because the company you work in wants to keep you on.

How did you find out about the contract extension the last two times?

I found out through the agency literally with a day to go :)

I just have a sense this time it will not be renewed - hence my question!

I'd be moving to a new agency...

Not good, after 18 months you deserve better treatment. I'd straight up ask them for an update. Good luck!
