Would this be a good buy, a friend of mine is looking for an Accord, would he be mad to buy a petrol, he does about 250 Kms per week.

If you're buying a car for that much, why buy a seven year old design?

Agreed. It's even worse it's a 9 year old design. The newer generation 8 Accord came out in 2008, so this is a late registration.

However, if your friend is looking for an Accord, you'll get a 2008/2008 (Gen 7) one fairly cheaply. As petrol cars these are pretty much bullet proof in terms of reliability. For 250km/week these would be ideal (12KM/annum) you'd be better with a petrol.

FWIW, I do 28KM per annum in a 2.4 petrol Accord. Yes, it's diesel territory, but TBH, the thing is so reliable, it's hard to change to something that could be less reliable. What I'd save in fuel could easily be wiped out by a DMF, DPF, whatever on the newer diesels...

Thanks for that neither I nor him know much about cars, hard to get newer patrols online though.

There's plenty of Accord's out there. Here's a 2009 one (Gen 8) for €12.5K. It's the Executive (EX), so full loaded:

The new shape is probably more efficient as well, with the 6 speed box.

i had one of these 2.2 diesel, ran it for 4 years, zero problems, very comfortable car - couldn't fault it. But it was a 2005 - i would be looking at the new shape if i were you.

That advert is quite old by the way.

Its more than just a late registration..... this model was superseded in 2002. I smell a rat.

As for reliability, when they get to higher mileage (>120k miles) you may have to replace the oxygen sensor and the alternator, common failures and I had to do them on mine (oxygen sensor before 100k miles iirc - few hundred quid for the part)

Another +1 for the accord in general! Mate of mine had a '07 2l petrol for about 4 years, never ever gave an once of trouble! He only sold recently to get a people carrier for the expanding family! His wife has a '10 diesel passat and he said he would have much rather kept the accord and got rid of the passat only for the high mileage they do!

Avoid that car, OP, something very dodgy about such a late reg for that gen Accord.

I've seen a few 09 and 10 regs around. Remember deals been offered on them for ages after the new model came out.

What do you think is very dodgy about it?

It's being sold privately so it is very unlikely that the seller will drop €2500 off it. I'm sure there is leverage on the asking price depending how eager the seller is to shift it given that there would only be a very small number of interested buyers in a petrol car of that size but realistically I think €10k would be on the low side. However they can only say no to an offer.

There are - I seem to remember the sale of the newer model was delayed here by Honda at the time - I could be completely wrong on this however. a quick look on DD for 2009 Accords (new model) - most are UK reg, some are irish reg but coinciding with the change in Motor Tax rates at that time i think lads were just importing them from the UK just months old/nearly new as the emissions on the 2.2d are low, but the engine CC the wrong side of 2L

Feel free to correct me on this however---

i'm open to correction here but the motor tax on that 09 honda is 750 euro per year. something to think about maybe.

    why doesn't carzone show co2 emissions ?

Tax doesn't really worry him, again thanks for all the replies, plenty to think about.

The older model has 6 speed box too!

you can get the same model with 06, 07 reg for less than half price., also with low mileage.
for 16k it is better to get newer generation....

2l petrol is very good car. I own it 4 years, and never had any trouble.

It drinks however about 10l of petrol on 100km.

The new model went on sale in the UK in mid 2008 whereas we did not get it until early 2009 as there were still alot of unsold old models here. Any new shape 2008 models are most likely ex UK.
