How does this prescription affect the lense?

A few years ago I got new glasses, for reading only, and at the time the optician explained that she had written the prescription in such a way that unlike my old glasses which made things in the middle distance blurred, with these ones I could look up from my book and look across the room and my vision would not be distorted. I've moved since then so unfortunately I can't go back there for a new eye test. So yesterday I went for an eye test. The new prescription seems to be completely different to my last one so I'm wondering if that will affect the way the lenses are made and then my vision when I look at something further away than reading distance.

Just to add that I have my glasses just 2 and a half years and the only problem is that the right lens makes print is a little blurred, the left is fine as far as I can make out!

    Original prescription:

    Right eye
    Sphere: +0.75, Cyl: +0.75, Axis: 10

    Left eye
    Sphere: +1.50, Cyl: +0.25, Axis: 180

    New prescription:

    Right eye
    Sphere: +0.75, Cyl: -0.50, Axis: 95.0, Near: +1.00

    Sphere: +0.75, Cyl: -0.50, Axis: 95.0, Near:+1.00

    Any advice appreciated! :)

From what I can make out there is really only a small increase in reading power which is more likely age related change. Some opticians write their prescriptions using + cylinder values i.e. your older prescription and that they have added the near value to the sphere value.

This is your old prescription done in - cyl

    R. +1.50 -0.75 100
    L. +1.75 -0.25 90

Now this is your new reading prescription

    R. +1.75 -0.50 95
    L. +1.75 -0.50 95

There is practically no change for reading. Now I hope that answers your question.

Thanks endplate, that's very helpful. I was a bit confused by the axis value being so different. And a few years ago a mistake was made on my prescription, something was left out. I won't name the glasses supermarket!! ;) ..and when I had my glasses made up they were of course all wrong! So as a result I'm a little paranoid about a new prescription!

So the lenses will be made up in exactly the same way even if the prescription is written in a different way, have I got it right?! :D

I had another eye test. :o

The prescription is again completely different! ...to my eyes anyway!

Would you mind having a look and tell me what you think? :)

Ok so your new reading rx is as follows
    R. +2.00, -0.50 @ 100
    L. +2.25, -0.50 @ 90

Your new inter rx is as follows
    R. +1.75, -0.50 @ 100
    L. +2.00, -0.50 @ 90

I'm not really clear as to whether your old prescription is for an inter rx or reading rx. But I have it laid out that you can compare them.

    Thank you. :)

My old prescription was for reading only but with the advantage of not distorting my vision if I looked up at something across the room. My new optician assured me the new prescription would be something the same.

I'm very confused now! The latest prescription seems to be a big jump up from my old one. And how does the inter fit in with the reading... does that work with single vision lenses?? As for where the other new prescription (in my first post) fits in all of this....

Your inter prescription is designed for mid range reading i.e. computer use as the computer is usually not as close to you as say reading a book

    Thanks again! :)

Sorry to ba a pain but does than not imply that I would need some sort of varifocal lens for that prescription?? Or are all those figures combined for a single vision lense?

Maybe I should give my optitian a call and stop hogging this forum! ;)
