Right lads, wondering if anyone has a steel frameset (frame, headset and fork) for sale?

I'd be looking for a frame with all the eyelets for racks and mudguards, want to use it as an every day bike but with the ability to thrown on the racks and use it as a tourer.

Currently looking at buying a Kaffenback frame, fork and headset (fitted) from Planet x which will come to about €275, if anyone can beat that, let me know.

If you have a full steel bike for sale let me know either, could boost my budget by moving my current bike which I am planing to strip to kit out the frame I'm looking at.

What size are you? I have a Raleigh flyer in my ads.

    bump

willing to consider an alu frameset with mudguard eyelets and a rear rack boss too. cant get the kaffenback frame and firk in the same colour unless i buy disc only forks and i dont fancy having to buy new wheels and breaks.

Was looking at that frame myself for a commuter. I fired off a few emails to Ribble about it and here's what they had to say about it

Just to confirm the 525 has the same geometry as the Sportive bikes (below).

The only difference being the headtube ‘G’ which is 150mm on the 55cm frame and 160mm on the 58cm frame:

Any 45x45 1’1/8” hidden headset will be ok.

Yeah it's a lovely looking frame.

I'm slightly put off by the face that it's got "aggressive" geo like on the 7005 winter trainers and the sportive bikes, I'd ideally prefer something a little more relaxed.

Right now I'm seriously considering just buying the Kaffenback and putting a Surly Crosscheck or Long Haul Trucker Fork on it, but I'm not sure how that would look...

Isn't "sportive geometry" code for a relaxed geometry for someone who fancies themselves as a racer? ;)

Are you particular about the brakes? Isn't the Kaffenback canti-brakes only?

from reading online the ribble 525 has a really short top tube and an aggressive body position.

I'd be looking for something more upright.

The kaffenback is a little more upright already but from reading online, the Long Haul Trucker and cross check forks are very tall because of all the mudguard and tyre clearance and when you mix them with the kaffenback you get a very upright position. the price difference between the two (kaffenback with surly steel forks or ribble with blackguard carbon forks) is less than €20 after delivery... decisions :P

A set of canti breaks is pretty cheap and I wouldn't really be put off by having to switch to them.

You could put the ribble fork on the planet x. Going to go for one of the ribble bikes myself ;)

think id have more faith in the surly forks if i was going to tour tbh. with tge long haul fork and the kaffenvack frame id have all the braze ons id ever need. weight isnt really much of a concern.

    HI Seaneh,

Coming to this late but I have a selection of vintage steel lightweight frames and parts (if required). You'd be looking for a 22.5" I imagine? I have a smaller frame also. The 2 larger frames are a Raleigh (Reynolds 531) and a Motobecane (Vitus Steel Double Butted). Both these frames are in good condition and have mudguard eyelets etc. The smaller frame is a racing Mercian frame - beuatiful but probably too small. The bikes can be built up of just as frames. I'm based in Cork but fairly regulalry in Dublin.

    Best wishes,

    Brendan

could you post a picture or two Brendan? I'd love to have a look at what you have. do they have rack and mudguard eyelets and clearance?

    Hi Seaneh,

    Here's some on flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/66347375@N02/

The Motobecane is a Le Champion and the Raleigh is a Competition as far as I know. There are pictures of my Raleigh under Raleigh and Vintage bike. Both are from the 70's and are fitted with vintage parts.

Both bikes have eyelets and the photos show the Raleigh with mudguards. The Raleigh actually has greater clearance if you were thinking of bulkier tyres, it's presently fitted with 700x28's I imagine the Motobecane could take 700x28 or 25's at least.

I'm not sure if you're looking just for the frames or parts as well, if you're interested you could let me know.

Enjoy the pics - there's some of my 1930's Racing bike there too.

    Best wishes,

    Brendan

Seanah, I think you picked up a tri-cross - great bike, great buy!

Assume then you're not interesed in my own bikes, but let that not stop you either!

I don't why anyone would choose a road bike with cantis unless they absolutely needed massive tyre clearance.

There are plenty of cheap mid-drop caliper brakes available (e.g. Miche Performance 57mm) which will take 28mm tyres with a mudguard or 32mm without, and if that's not enough there are long-drop ones too.
