And do trees just 'pop up'? Set it for awhile or lease it but see a cute farmer for advice.

Oh I understand just thinking anything that could be done with it.

It's in the west and live in Dublin.

Set or lease it. End of. See auctioneer and solicitor. Draw up 7 year lease (tax thing) 2-3 months mortgage? Perhaps

Pick you client carefully and go through an auctioneer, if you do a bit of research you will get a farmer that will look after if especially if you give it to him for a few years.

Other option is forestry but thats a bit of a dirty word with us farmers (think john b keanes the field:D) If ya ring coillte they will set you straight but afaik the money is poor for non farmers.

Not being smart here but why dont you just sell it?

Genuinely interested in the reasons why dont sell up, OP.
I see similar plots of land around me with urban or city based owners that are leased for decades with neighbouring farmers absolutely hanging to buy them but they never get sold.

'It's in the west and live in Dublin'

If it is in Mayo or bordering I might be interested - I can show you my own plot and judge for yourself. Not interested in recking the place - may suit both sides.

You could lease it for forestry. .. 85% of the farmer rate of premium, tax free and no costs. . Lad leasing it pays all the costs, insurance etc. Few lads down our way went with this scheme. .. seem very happy with it.

    Lease and auctioneer.

There is alot off idle plots off land around me that i wouldnt mind leasing to increase the amount off stock i could hold, but like dont be daft says these people are away from the area and they dont try to rent it, So what am wondering is what money per acre (rough dry hilly ground) would you be chatting about to rent it on say a 5 year lease if i was to contact these people.
