Hi all , as the title says I have a 07 Ford Mondeo 1.8 petrol. Last year during the winter we had a few times when it wouldn't start. Didn't bother buying a new battery as it seemed to sort itself out.

This winter the problem seems to be back , 9 out of 10 times it will start but that one time it won't start and needs a jump start to get it going.

Does it sound like the battery is the problem or could it be something else.

Would it start at all those 9 times out of 10 if it was the battery. I don't want to shell out for a new one if its something else.

    Thanks.

Certainly sounds like the battery. A good fitters should be able to test it. There is a slim possibility that something is discharging it the one time in ten!

Finally gave in yesterday and took the car to have the battery checked. Turns out the battery was too small for the car. The battery was only sufficient to power a 1.3 , my car is a 1.8. Even the size of it was wrong , it was too small for the metal surround it sits in. The new one looks huge.

Hopefully that's an end to the problem.
