My 6 year old Miele washing machine has given up. What is the advice of boards members. Should I use the miele repair service, or are there any other repair companies I should consider in the dublin area.

    Thanks all for your time!

Can't believe a miele would pack up after 6 years . We have one 15 years and its never seen a repair man. When you say its given up what do you mean ? Is there power lights on ? Have you checked the fuse etc ?

If the drum attempts to spin in a programmed cycle but doesn't it might just need new electrical brushes. ( If you have been overloading the machine over time the brushes may have worn out)

Try Worrells in Malahide ..they should be able to help www.worrells.ie

I can't find the relevant post because when you search for 'miele spare parts', the boards search throws up every mention of 'spare parts' whether 'miele' is mentioned or not but I recall reading on a post a while back that indie repairmen tend not to stock Miele spare parts.

I don't know if this is because they don't break down often enough and so don't generate the repair business that would justify someone holding a decent supply of spares, or if Miele Ireland restricts the supply of spares though such a policy would be illegal these days.

Given the substantial cost of a 'like for like' replacement, I think a repair callout is definitely worthwhile, even at Miele rates. If it was any other brand you could consider buying a new model but after only six years there has to be a few years left in a Miele.

thank you, I agree. Make that 8 years. Time flies by.

Well the problem is failure to begin cycle, with 3 dashes on panel and buzzer sound which from the manual indicates a fault that requires service repair.

Perhaps you'd post the outcome here when you get it sorted, would be interested to know the cost of calling out the Miele repairman.

If you google "miele spare parts site:boards.ie" it returns searches for all words only from boards.ie, this search brings up about 40 hits.

I must of jinxed myself ! Drain pump on my 15 yr old Miele W340 packed in at the end of last week. Miele wanted €121 for the part. Sourced a brand new part in uk for €75 ( Could have got a used one for £20 stg but didn't want to chance it ) and will fit myself !

well in the end the the price quoted which would consist of part replacement plus two call out fee's totaling 400 euro (the problem is with the control panel)

I was also wrong about the age, as the machine is in fact 10 years old.
The technician advised me that the cost of repair might warrant replacing the machine as a new Miele costs around 800-1000 euro and he suggested the motor may go with time and the cost combined with this one in the end would be that of a new machine.

I am thinking of taking this advice and getting a new Miele if this is the case.
I am disappointed a little, as Miele tends to push the fact that their machines last up to 20 years. Perhaps I am too old fashioned lol

I was also wrong about the age of my machine ..only 12. Looks like mine has a control panel issue also. It wouldn't drain so I checked all the usual suspenct internal/ external hose, air pressure unit, drain sump etc.. no blockages or clogging found

Hastily I ordered a drain pump thinking that would cure the problem. Unfortunately to my expense not the case. I forgot to check the resistance on the old pump ( using a multimeter) and when I checked both old and replacement pump both had a resistance of .15 which is spot on.( means here is no open circuit in the pumps so unless jammed they should work).

I used the multimeter last night to check the voltage at the pump when the machine was on drain/ spin cycle . It should have had 220volts but wasn't. That means there is a 95% chance that a new control unit is needed .

As Control units are expensive and Miele would have charged me €120 call out to even look at the machine I think it is time to cut my losses and get a new one. ( Not sure I will buy a miele again. 20 year = 12 years for the washing machine and I only got 6 years out of a top of the range dishwasher again which was supposed to last forevver)

A bit disillusioned with Miele especially their high call out and parts charges which in reality make it uneconomic to repair an ageing machine

Good point Dak. I will trust you on the technical issues :) as I have not the faintest idea in regards half of your post lol.

At the moment I have all Miele devices. Following this experience I will probably be taking a closer look at some other brands.

Thanks all for for your advice.

Hi Dak. I'm fairly sure drain pump in my 12 yr old miele washing machine has packed in today. Just wondering how I get at it to replace? Side panel? Underneath? I have looked on-line for service manual but no joy. Thanks in advance :-)

Should be able to get at it fairly easy from underneath, so lay the machine on its left hand side. Place an old duvet or soft cardboard underneath.
Try espares for a replacement pump. They are based in Derry and you will have it the following day. 057-9351729
Obviously I don't know if you are familiar with working on machines but in case you're not, POWER OFF BEFORE WORKING ON IT.

Thanks very much for that. I have successfully replaced parts in our Miele dishwasher, so would at least have a look around the washing machine before admitting defeat. Power off, yes, totally. :-)
