Ecobrite used to be the only Irish stove fuel until last year, now the manufacturer ( Arigna) of stove fuel has been rebranded it as "Stove Fuel" into lighter bags. We live in a smokeless zone so can't use coal.

We have been burning this new "STOVE FUEL" in our stove and find it is not half the product for heat output of the former, even though we were told there is no change in the product. There is also way more ash produced by this fuel.

Anyone with a similar experiences compared to Ecobrite?

    Secondly,

We were told not to use Anthracite in our stove as it produces acids which attack the stove. Anyone else been told this or is it more salesperson BS?

    Thanks all in advance

I thought you could still get Ecobrite in the 40kg bags and the Stove Fuel in the 35kg was just a new product?

Perhaps ask for Supacite/Glolite/Cosyglo Gems/Phurnacite. All smokeless products suitable for stoves.

Anthracite in a stove seems open to confusion, perhaps depending on the type of stove. People like yourself say you have been told not to use it while others say it's recommended for their stove.
We have a range at home for cooking and heating that uses anthracite. It's a good slow, steady burner but it does take a while to light up and get going. The range is only lit during the coldest days and is lit early. If you're using your stove to heat a sitting room, etc. in the evenings and don't have a lot of time waiting for the fire to start up then anthracite is probably best avoided anyway.

We are being told by Cork's only supplier, Ecobrite is no longer available and this is the same product in smaller bags...
