Hi all have trawled boards looking for suggestions but didn't find much to relate directly to me.
My 99 fiesta has kicked the bucket and we have decided to get a family car.
We drive around 12k a year mostly city miles.
We have 2 toddlers with no plans for anymore.
    Our budget is 7-8k.
We could stretch a bit thanks to daddy but don't really want two loans even though one is interest free I suppose.
I don't know much about cars have been researching but still undecided.
Thinking Octavia Avensis or corolla maybe a ceed.

Am viewing a corolla over the weekend 7K for a 2007 with only 20K miles of city driving on it although have been advised by a friend to stay away as the low milage could cause problems.
Any help or advice much appreciated.

Corollas are a pain if you have kids, small rear leg room and low roof.

You'd easily get an 08 Hyundai i30 petrol for that money. Kia ceed a good choice too.

Something like this might suit you well.

We had one from new in 2007 to 2010. We did 190,000km in it and while it wasn't perfectly reliable (handbrake broke twice) it was still very good. Defiantly not a fast car but it's fine and probably wont be noticeable around town. Lots of space and a big boot but the most important thing is that it is very very safe.

Have a look at the Honda Jazz:

Plenty of space, easy access to the rear, high driving position, very reliable, cheap to tax and easy on fuel.

Id consider it. But I presumed that with our mileage id be better off with petrol.

    I'd be inclined to agree.

    Have you considered a Prius?

8k seems a bit strong to me on a 1.6 but haven't access to donedeal so cant check the going rate or any alternatives

8k is about right from a dealer, it all depends on the particular car. There are a few stratas advertised in dealers for 8, so I'd say it'd be possible to do better on paper. It all comes down to the particular car, and the after sales package on offer.

For 8k though, there is a lot better stuff out there.

It's easy to dismiss an avensis, especially a 1.6. But there really is a reason why they sold so well. They do have their plus points.

Thanks for the replies lads picking up a 06 Avensis from a dealer this weekend.
1.6 petrol with fsh and 114000km on the clock for 6000 euro.
1yr roadside assist and warranty comes with it.
    Happy enough with that.
After all my research really wanted a Hyundai I30 petrol but we needed something pronto and the mrs loved the avensis. Thanks for all the advice.
