Fake.
It will always be a fake.
Its more likely that multi trillion dollar spending governments can create this technology in secret,than the idea aliens have reached us special beings from across the universe.

There is good reason to believe governments might wish there to be a belief in aliens to help cover their activities.
And/or to help shift mans consciousness from god to a more material being like ancient aliens.
I consider it a possible replacement for religion for the age of aquarius.
The last 60 odd years has been the introduction to the idea.
Speculation on my part, but theres some theories to consider.

well that makes sense, replace one mysterious being in tne sky who's existance is based on faith with another far more 'plausible' one.
I still hold the personal belief that somewhere amongst the billions of galaxies out there many forms of life exists, some of it probably intelligent enough to communicate with, and that some time in the future we will figure out how to do that.

i'd be a bit more skeptical about reports of these intelligent beings crossing the vastness of space to an anally probe some hillbillies in montanna
