    Hi,

I'm currently on JSA and plan to go back to education,
First, do an access course then hopefully get my degree.
However, i need to move out from my mothers house,
Too many family problems that are distracting me from bettering myself.
Which is why i'm desperately in need of some help with rent allowance.
Then i can concentrate on my education.
My question is how do i get rent allowance?
I noticed i have two options....

    A:
"You may get Rent Supplement if you have been living for 6 months (183 days)
out of the last 12 months in one, or a combination, of the following:

    B:
''Have been assessed by a local authority as being eligible for and in need of social housing in the last 12 months''

I've not been renting for 6 months, so i guess am going with plan B.
What do i need to do, to become ''eligible for and in need of social housing''

I live in my mothers 2 bedroom house, which is a dump (sorry ma, but it's the truth)
My sisters are also living here (crazy alcoholics)
There's even rats all over the place & we have no central heating :(

I need to get out of here ASAP~~~
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

    THANK YOU.

Obtion B is certainly the one that applies to you. Call in to your local council and fill out a housing form. When you have completed the housing applicaton form the council will send out an environmental health inspector to decide if you are in need of housing. If things are as bad as you describe at home then you should be deemed as being in need of housing and that will qualify you for rent supplement.
Next step is to find a place that is under the RS limit for your area, then fill in the RS form, depeding on where you live you will either bring it to your local CWO or send it to the Central Rent Supplement unit.

    Heya
My advice would be go to see your CWO (Community Welfare Officer). They can speed up the process. Ring and find out where you can meet him/her. I think they go to most towns/villages. My friend needed their help earlier on in the year and the matter was dealt with very quickly. Bring your pps number with you. Good luck
