booked our flights for return visit to Algarve today :D Waited in Albufeira last year and loved it. Going to head to Alvor this year though . Myself, wife 12 year old son and 2 year old son. If any could recommend some nice apartment complexs or even links from private owner websites to specific apartments they have stayed in id be very grateful. Would like to be relatively central and close to beach. TIA

alvormar are nice basic apartments in the centre of alvor, about 5 mins walk to the beach. dom joao 2 hotel has some nice apartments too and its right on the beach. theres a shop on the complex too which is handy.

i am looking to book an apartment privately through Owners Direct style websites. The ones to have caught my eye so far include
    Alto Club
    Vila da Prai
    Club Alvor Ria
    Club Alvorias
if anyone has stayed in any of the above id appreciate feedback.
would like to be central enough but the most important thing is the size of the bedroom. looking for a 1 bed apt but the bedroom needs to be big enough to accomadate an extra cot bed or even just a matress as we would prefer to keep the 2 1/2 year old in room with us.

Have not stayed in those apartments but you will most likely be charged extra for a cot in complex's. Anything between €1.50 to €3 per day.

That's roughly our price range. Are they hotel rooms or apts ? Studio or 1 bed

60 of my guests stayed in alvor ferias for my wedding in alvor in September and all loved it.
I looked all over alvor for good size apartments, good price, decent food and not too far from the centre and decided on ferias. They are HUGE!
If staying there, book a room on the opposite side of reception. Nicer and quiter.

Alvor is one of the best places in the world IMO and I've travelled a lot of it when working on cruise ships!

Did you select anything yet ? I tried Alvor Baia for my week in August and no Avail (2 Adults - 3 Kids). First holiday as a family and would like to get it right.

Alvor Ferias did have availability, just anxious to get it right.

Not yet. There was no availability in Albor Baia for my dates early June either .....
Alvor Ferias seems to be a little hit miss depending on location of apartment.
I'm still trawling through owners direct and the like. Hope to have something booked by next weekend

I stayed in Alvor Ferias last year in June. Got a double room for €800 for 14 nights. the Rooms are massive, the complex is quite old and dated. It is rated 3 star but its the lower end of that rating. The complex is clean but dont expect it to be all mod and flash.

The rooms are quite big but the reception side will be noisy at night with clube/bar and traffic in the morning going into the shop. The far side is quieter but not used as much plus the rooms over there are older.

The one issue would be the pools. There are very deep 3M, there is a segregated kids pool but with a young child its an added stress which on holiday you dont need.

I was worried prior to my stay as well with all the negative comments last year but I felt I got value for money and will return again. I dont tend to stay around a pool and my kids where 15 and 11 and both good swimmers so poll depth was a bonus. If you plan on using it as a base to explore the beaches and surrounds of alvor then its fits the bill. If you are the 14 days on a pool sun lounger then look elsewhere.

Did you book it privately or through hotels.com ?
I would appreciate any feedback on the other resorts mentioned from anyone else .

Having stayed on both sides, there was no real difference in the rooms as far as I saw. (I was given a master key to check rooms out)

On the other hand, there are some lovely private appartments around but you don't have the convenience of a toastie for 2 euro!!

No bother, pleasure. Mind you that's June...u going June?

The prices fluctuate around this time, but mostly on the up from here on in if the last few years are anything to go by.

The 12 yr old could check out the sports activities and the 2 yr old can enjoy the Kids club...

I have found nothing wrong with the alvorferias at all. OK its basic, but the apartments are massive, 1 bathroom shower room/wc plus 1 other shower./wc .

The rooms are well spaced out too. The only thing I didnt like was the Karaoke singing from the pub on Wednesday...but you cant have it all ways.:D :D

Alvor is a lovely relaxing place...

That's fantastic cos ill eat steak nearly every night when away :D
Accommodation wise it's narrowed down to Villa Da Prai or Clube Alvor Ria. Booking apts direct from owners. If anyone has stayed in either feel free to divulge info :)

I just had a look at those apartments, in a great location and very modern.

My preference for the Alvorferias is down to the daily fun sports activities/kids club. And for sure if the Alvorferias didn't have them I, probably would book elsewhere.

Just though that might be worth flagging up with you if u were looking for place with activities for the kids.
