Anyone know if the disk in this can be removed and put into a laptop. I.e. is it a standard sata disk.

You can for a 3.5" drive, perhaps its the same for 2.5"
I'd imagine you can. thanks 54kroc for pointing this out

Got of these last week. I was given was USB 3.0 and powered through USB, despite what the spec said. Don't think mine was a one off as got the details off another thread here from a few weeks back

OP that's a great price and I'm very tempted - but must resist because I bought the Samsung ssd y'day.

Just a word of caution on the WD drive that the OP posted - from what I've read it is NOT possible to take the drive out of these anymore and use them standalone in laptops/PS3s etc. I think that WD developed a drive specifically for portability and it does not have the normal connections. You can read more details here. There is a big upside to this - the drive is significantly smaller than previous versions.

yes, careful. You cannot swap HDD inside portable hard drive like WD Passport USB3.0 into your laptop because it doesn't have regular SATA port/interface. It has only usb3.0 port from that portbale HDD (so manufacturer can save on parts and make it smaller).

Are you choosing the More buying choices option on the right and add to basket from Amazon?

Nope I was using the main add to basket option on the top right.
Mate tried it too and got the same but we were looking at the 1tb option.

Just noticed the site is now saying:
Order now and we'll deliver when available. We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information. Your account will only be charged when we ship the item.

Found THIS though which ain't too bad either.

    BEWARE!

Just a word of warning. Anyone thinking of using these in a Laptop\Desktop. Certain models of Passport drive have the USB coming straight off the Hard Drive circuit board. There is no SATA interface.

WD have been doing this on and off for a few years now. I don't have any model specifics, but try and Google the drive model before parting with cash, if your plan is to remove the drive for use internally.

This 2 TB USB 3 from Amazon should work out around €90 which is pretty decent value

That's a 3.5" drive that requires external power.
If it was just about capacity then it would be a welcome post but this thread is about portable storage.
