Paying no income tax after emergency tax refund?

I'm going to get on to Revenue about this after the weekend, but in the meantime I'll post here.

I started work for the first time in September, and up until mid October I was on emergency tax. I was repaid the over-taxation at that point, but since then I haven't had any income tax at all deducted from my payslip (just the USC, PRSI etc.). Aside from a cock-up, could there be any explanation for this?

It sounds fine, not a cock-up. when you started work in September you didn't have allowances/credits so you were on emergency tax. Once this got sorted in October, you got the refund. The tax year works on a Jan to Dec basis so you had 9 months of allowances unused which brought you up to end of December. Your first pay in 2013 will start with all your new allowances/cre dits spread over the 12 months and will even out your deductions over the year. You should receive a P60 from your employer sometime in Feb 2013 which will have your 2012 tax/deductions listed on it. It would be worth your while at this point requesting a Balancing Statement from Revenue to just reconcile the tax for 2012.
