Hi, the young one is really interested in this civic, it has 163k miles on it and the timing belt was done at 71k, i assume it would need doing again by now? i really dont know anything bout cars so just guessing by the mileage. anyone know roughly the cost of replacing the belt?
The car would need a full service also so would it make more sense to get all this done at the same time?
and finally could anyone recommend someone in the roscommon / athlone area that would do the work or should i just go to the local garage (toyota / VW)
also i noticed there is a unit of some sort with wires sticking out of it hanging under the glovebox it has a big 4W wrote on it, i will try to put a pic up, does anyone who has one of these cars have that unit under the glovebox?

    Hello

I have a 01 1.4 honda civic and the honda dealer said the timing belt needs to be done every 70k miles. If your car has done 160k then the belt should have been replaced at 140k and if it has it would usually be written on the timing belt case in permament marker or tippex. I got my belt done about 2 years ago and it cost me approx 430 euro (parts and labour). It involves replacing the water pump too as that is attached to the same part. If the garage doesn't have the parts in they can order them in within a few days.
I'm not from Athlone/Roscommon so I can't recommend a mechanic in that area.

Budget to have the T/B and water pump changed as soon as possible and negotiate on the price with the seller to reflect this.

if the belt is gone 30k over, it could be like your username OP :) as said above, use this as a bargaining tool to lower the price. id say you'd get the whole lot done in a good indy for 400, thats a rough guess.
