Triax TR212 Problems

    Hi all,

Got a Triax TR212 a few days ago and it keeps displaying a pop up dialogue on screen saysing "Message No Signal". It's getting really annoying, I've tried resetting the unit but doesn't make any difference. It's quite slow to change channel and the EPG messes up quite a bit, displaying the same information on all channels. Really disappointed with the unit especially since it cost 100e. Any one have similar problems? I think I'm going to bring it back tomorrow.

    Cheers

Does the 'no signal' message just come up in between changing channels, or also when actually viewing a channel? (i.e. you actually have no signal & the fault lies with your aerial setup, rather than the receiver.)

No its when I'm on a channel. I'm close enough to the border that I get a decent signal for UK Freeview. The message doesn't show up on the Soarview channels, just certain Freeview ones (E4 and E4+1 especially). It's definitely not a weak signal, as 2 other tv's in the house are perfect, but they have built in tuner's.

Yes, I have also noticed this problem with this box. Very frustrating, because the picture behind the 'No Signal ' message can be perfect, and there's no way to get rid of the message. I'm also recieving Freeview stations from the North.

However, it does only happen on weaker stations, with poor signal quality. I think Triax should upgrade this box to remove this message altogether.

If anyone is recieving Freeview stations with this box, I would recommend turnig off LCN in the Menu, (you have to retune when you do this), and also turning off automatic retune. Otherwise the box will mix up your channel list, that you may have spent some time setting up.

I think this could be a better box if Triax could fix this issue with the 'No Signal' message.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a software update for this problem. I expected better from Triax to be honest, even the interface design is poor. The menu's, epg etc is very old fashioned in comparison to a Samsung tv I bought recently.

Any suggestions on replacement Soarview boxes around the same price?

Have you tried the tvs on the aerial point the Triax is attached to, or vice-versa?

    Delta Lima.
What does LNC stand for. Have turned it off on my 114. Can now see when the signal goes weak but don't lose channels.

    Thanks

Yeah, we have a Philips tv with mpeg-2 tuner (got it a few years back before we knew Saorview was coming) and the Freeview are perfect on it.

    JOSman,

LCN stands for something like Logic Channel Numbering. It helps to turn it off on some boxes if you want to number the stations to your own preference in the channel list.

Don't think it's related to the main problem here though. (ie the 'No Signal' message)

Not sure what you mean when you say you can now see when the stations are weak.

    Hi Delta Lima,

I'm having problems with my Triax 114 in so far that the signal drops out. The signal strength is normally between 50% +or-3%. Quality is very good at 85%.
With no warning everything drops out. Signal and quality drop to 0% and will not come back by itself.
If I remove the f-connector and put it back the signal returns to the 50% and 85% values. These values will remain from 30 seconds to hours (where I can watch tv).
I was just wondering if the signal strength is on the border of the minimum allowable values.

    Thanks JOSman

    JOSman,

Sounds like the problem may have to do with the cable connections between your 114 and the dish. It might be worth tightening the connection at the dish, especially if it's a quad LNB, as they are usually more awkward to fit. I'm sure you know that with coax connections, it's important the coax screen isn't touching the center core.

They say quality is more important than signal strength when it comes to the signal values, but generally, you should be looking for over 50 % for both.

If you could try to replicate the fault on a friend's working dish, it might prove the fault lies with the box.

Possibly your LNB could be faulty too.

This is a little bit off topic for this thread JOSman :) but never mind.

    Thanks Delta Lima,

Realised that this was off topic, but needed advice. I'll have the LNB checked and maybe replaced.

    Thanks again.

    JOSman

    No problem.

It's probably unlikely to be a faulty LNB. If they give up, they usually give up permanently. But you never know :)

If you have an old working Sky box, it might be worth seeing how it behaves with your own dish for a few days.

Your problem is a very long cable run from the symptoms you have described.

    Hi STB,

    The cable run is long.

Thanks guys for all your help.

In the System Settings Menu, is "Auto Search in Standby" switched on? If it is, try switching it off.

So did we get to the bottom of the no signal pop up box on the tr 212?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 driveshark

Never sorted it out. Had to bring the box back, they replaced it with a new one but again same problem. I presume its a software error, unless the signal is incredibly strong it shows the error message even though the picture may be fine. Fairly disappointed with it to be honest. I thought the UI was very poor as well, in comparison to say Samsung or Philips TV interfaces, but then again this is just my opinion!

But even if the signal is strong its still coming up.

a little update on the tr212 no signal problems.
So I installed the tvtrade April software. Done a factory reset. Set country to UK, turned off active antenna and LCN. Manual scan on my strongest freq (22, castlebar). So far last night I've had 3hrs viewing without that no signal message box coming up.
On a plus point, this box is a great media player, as it plays every file type I throw at it. wonder if it can be connected to a network drive via its ethernet?
