Good site for budget framesets?

Apart from the usual suspects, anyone got any leads for good sites for nice good value frames / framesets? I'm talking sub 500 quid

All the usual places -Ribble, planet-x etc seem to prefer to sell full bikes. And Ribble, oddly won't sell a lot of their frames at all, unless you buy a fork as well, which I don't necessarily need...

Wiggle and chain reaction then can have great deals on top end frame-sets - was 5000 euro, now only 3999... great....

Dolan are an option, had a great deal on a mythos full carbon, but it seems to be all sold out

And finally there's canyon and their 499 roadlite frame which is lovely, but at that money you kinda feel like you'd be as well off to spend the full 999 and sell all the bits! The aksiums and 105 groupset would nearly make 500 quid themselves you'd have to think.

I've often wondered why the major manufacturers only sell framesets of their high end machines, and not the lower end stuff. A bike that retails for 1000-1500 euro for example, it doesn't seem to be an option to just buy the frameset - like a giant tcr 3 or something like that.

Bit of a rambly aul post I guess. :rolleyes: If anyone can make any sense of it, post away.

Second hand market is probably your best bet, here. adverts. ebay etc.

First link is the normal 7005 alu ribble frame and the second is the winter trainer, so has all the eyelets for racks and mudguards and stuff.

For the price you'd be doing well.

Dolan have a shop on ebay http://stores.ebay.ie/Dolan-Bikes-Uk?_trksid=p4340.l2563 - the prices look good, but I guess it is down to size whether you'll find a bargain.

A brand new Ridley for 310 in loads of opinions so hopefully something in the right size there.

Also try Merlin, a but hit and miss but some cracking deals on there somtimes.

You can get great frames straight from China on ebay.... I know a good few people who have them.

If Im not mistaken that excludes taxes and import duties so you are looking at quite a hefty bit more than the stated price..

yeah you can be lucky with the duty sometimes but the average duty rate of 12.47% It's around 50 Euro delivery on top of that...... There is a higher rate of duty (anti-dumping) for bicycles, not sure if it applies to frames though.

I would love to find out, I posted a thread not so long ago asking if anyone had done that and purchased some wheels in from China/Asia..they look nice!

You'll also get charged 23% vat calculated on the total of item + shipping + import duty.
The import duty is also based on the total of the item + shipping cost.

I've seen a few pictures of failed Dengfu steerer tubes knocking around online too, so I'd be very reluctant to buy a bike form them...
