Hi all, the main Netflix recommendations thread is mostly dedicated to US Netflix.

This thread is for those of us who prefer to use Irish Netflix.

For the lesser known films, please include a short description

A few to get you started :

    Action :

Zombieland : I don’t really like Woody Harrelson, but I like Zombie flicks, and this is a really good one.

O’ Brother Where Art Thou : If you haven’t seen this quirky film, well worth watching : Three convicts break out of a Depression-era Mississippi jail, embarking on an epic quest for a hidden cache of loot.

Apocalypto : I didn’t think I’d like this, but it was really good. The end of the Mayan civilization anchors this action-adventure set just before Spain's conquest of Mexico and Central America

The Way : When his son dies while hiking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in the Pyrenees, a grieving father decides to complete the 500-mile trek to Spain. I thought this might be too religious, but its not, a good film.

Ronin : A squad of mercenaries led by a former CIA operative is assembled to recover a mysterious briefcase sought by Irish terrorists and the Russian mob. Classic De Niro flim, and some brilliant car chases

3:10 to Yuma : I don’t like Russell Crowe, but he does a very fine job here. As good a western as you will ever see.

Das Boot : Brilliant submarine film, and shows the proper realities of war.

A Perfect Getaway : Pretty good basic action/suspense flick. Newlyweds Cliff and Cydney are enjoying a perfect honeymoon in Hawaii -- that is, until they run into a pair of menacing hikers.

    Foreign :

The Lives of Others : German with english subtitles, but a brilliant portrayal of life in 70’s / 80’s East Germany, and the way the Stasi operated.

Baader Meinhof Complex : German with english subtitles, but a good film about the German terrorist group the Red Army Faction (you heard of them in Die Hard !)

    Documentaries :

A Crude Awaking : Worlds dependency on oil and the implications

Collapse : Michael Ruppert discusses the link between energy depletion and the collapse of the industrial economy. Even if you agree with him or not, its makes for extremely compelling viewing

Food Inc. : Well worth seeing, how the modern food industry works, and puts you off mass manufactured food.

Bobby Fisher against the World : If you like chess at all, you’ll like this

Walmart : Good documentary about the effect large chain stores have on small towns and wages.

Gasland : well worth watching as fracking is coming to Ireland

I know what I saw : Apartently rational people tell their UFO stories. Compelling
