    A Huge Big "It Depends"

By the sound of your post you are not very familiar with Airports.
If its Dublin Airport and you are not familiar with the place allow yourself TWO hrs so you can find your way to the gate through the labyrinth of security, the possibilty of your e ticket not reading properly (yes it happens), shops, long long walk corridors, coffee, bathroom and plane.

Normally I'd say about 40mins before your flight is supposed to depart, OP, BUT this would be a particularly busy time of year in the plane station so you may want to add an hour to that.

There is never any harm in being early.
Get there two hours in advance and drink coffee, watch girls/boys and relax.

I always aim for two hours before, you have anywhere from 10 min to 20 min for security sometimes more and then the 15 min walk to the gate with fools getting in your way so that can be longer, have a pint or a coffee to kill the time then

Agreed. Two hours minimum. Dublin Airport will be jammers on Sunday. There will be a lot of people traveling who were off over Xmas & who have to back home for work on Monday morning. I'd also give yourself additional time to get to the airport itself too. The approach roads to the airport, car parks, drop off spots etc etc will probably be packed also.

Ryanair themselves say to be at the gate no less than 30 mins before the flight departs, as the gate closes 20 mins before departure. No offence theteal, but I think that advising an inexperienced traveler that its ok to arrive at the airport a mere 40 mins before the flight departs is bad advice. Not even the fastest of speed walkers, or most experienced travelers who knows the airport like the back of their hand, could get past security, and make it to the gate in just 10 mins imo, especially not in Dublin.

OP, if you are taking a flight where you don't have to check bags, or pre clear Customs and Immigration, and its not the holidays, being at the airport a minimum of 90 mins before departure is a good rule of thumb. There will be times when you'll have loads of time to kill. There will be times that you'll need every second of the 90 mins. You just can't ever tell in advance how its going to go, so its best to err on the side of caution.

    Cheers for the advice guys.

I'm not that unfamiliar with Dublin airport, it's just that this is the first time that I'm flying without having to check in suitcases so wasn't sure if it was necessary to be there 2 hours early, anyway after taking into consideration how busy it will be, ill just head up 2 hours in advance.

    Thanks again.

This Sunday 30 December will be one of the busiest days of the year at the airport. You flight will be after a lot of the rush but still allow 2h for the day thats in it. Ryanair do enforce the gate time policy so be there at least 30 minutes before the flight is scheduled. (I have heard every excuse possible!) and allow 10-15 minutes walk from security to Pier D. Over all allow 50 minutes once you pass security to be at gate and the rest will depend how long security takes and if you do shopping or anything like that.
