Peugeot 5008 Spare Wheel problem

    Hi,

I have a 2010 Peugeot 5008. We have a flat front tyre so which I went to fix, but could not get the spare wheel to drop from underneath the car. I was at it for ages and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Ended up calling out the Recovery people from my insurance, but he also couldn't get it out. He phoned someone and they think there is a known fault with the wiring that fitting that enables the spare wheel to drop. Has anyone else heard of this?

It has been very frustrating as we have been stuck at home all Crimbo cos we can't get the flat tyre off the car, as there is one of those alloy security nuts on it, and the thingy to take this off is nicely stored inside the spare wheel!! Am annoyed that the Peugeot dealer did not make me aware of the fault, or check it out prior to selling me the car. If we had been stuck on the side of the road this would have been far worse, but it has been very inconvenient over Christmas.

Peugeot have obviously been closed all over Crimbo too.

Anyone any advice on how to get this sorted!

Assuming there's no damage to the sidewall, you could use a can of TyreWeld to get you going again. Is the car still under warranty?

It's two months out of warranty as far as I know. If it is a known fault, do they still have to fix it for you free of charge, or will I have to stump up to fix it?

How far will a can of TyreWeld get me? Am supposed to be driving down the country in the next couple of days.

They don't have to, but if you have a dealer FSH then they might. It's certainly worth asking, anyway.

I once drove around on the stuff for a month, but it's not recommended - I was more thinking of it as an easy way to get you to the dealer/tyre repair shop. How much do Peugeot want for a new locking key?

Check above the wheel inside the car under the carpet, some cars have a release bolt inside to prevent theft.

Dunno yet, haven't been able to get in contact with anyone as they are all closed over Christmas. Am also worried about getting the fixing sorted so we can access the spare wheel the next time we get a flat

Yes, that is what is faulty. We were trying to unscrew this bolt to let the spare drop from under the car, and no amount of unscrewing would work! The call out guy was sure he was on candid camera or something, as this was the first time he was unable to change a tyre on a call out! He had no spare unlocking keys in the truck.

So what happened in the end then? Was thinking of getting a 5008 ¿Would you recommend them?

Peugeot dealer said it was broken by someone, and was out of warranty. They did however replace and fit a new one for free, as a gesture of goodwill.

Yeah I would recommend the 5008 to anyone with more than two kids
