I got it for the kids for Christmas & will be giving it a go with my youngest daughter tomorrow! (had to find the guitar they will be using (my old modified 'gigging' strat) stored in the eaves of the attic & new strings &setup checked after years of storage).

It's good fun, but can be a bit of a grind sometimes, especially if you're trying to nail song parts on the riff repeater on the more complicated songs.

The problem as far as I see it are two fold: Firstly in that you can find yourself playing to visual cues - which won't be there for you if you are not playing the game obviously. I found myself half using cues and half trying to follow by ear.

Secondly, as the complexity of a song or riff increases, you'll notice that what they've done is leave out notes, and add them back in as you progress. This can effect your fingering quite a bit, you might find 3/4 of the way through that you're fingering is all wrong because of the new note introduced. It makes sense as it is effectively a game, but if you were learning using other resources you wouldn't learn this way.

Not sure if it'll be all that effective for getting you back playing thou' once the novelty wears off...

I got this game a little while ago, it may not be the case for everyone but it has helped me improve my skills.
I am self thought on guitar so that may have factored in somewhere.
The game also really got me back in to playing guitar, also started to record my own music.
One thing to remember is that it is a game first and foremost, so I wouldn't jump straight in thinking that it's gonna make you the next Hendrix in a couple of weeks.
    Hope this helped!

It can be very frustrating if you can actually play the song. A friend of mine has it and I nearly threw the guitar at the TV in frustration :)

Seems to have helped him though!

Got it for Xmas. I do like it, but it can teach you songs differently than you may have learned another way previously. For example, I Believe In A Thing Called Love plays different than Total Guitar Magazines tabs.

I got this for Xmas too. I like it but its a bit frustrating when your playing all the notes not just the highlighted ones out of habit.

they should give you all the notes but change the speed ie starting slowly (1/4 speed) and as you hit the notes correctly the speed goes up to maybe 1/2 speed and on and on up to full speed which is how people seem to learn songs.*

*i'm only a beginner so correct me if I'm wrong

The game is fantastic, and going for £27 on amazon for ps3 at the moment. A great learning tool and a blast to play.
