    Hi There,

I am just about to buy my first apple product, an iMac. However I know virtually nothing about their O/S.

I am buying a second hand machine (21") and the one I am looking at is running os 10..6.8 which I understand is "Snow Leopard". I know that the latest os is called Mountain Lion and I believe there was a "Lion" os between these.

I will be using the machine for running Photoshop CS5 or higher along with other photo editing tools such as Photomatix and Nik software.

So my question is this, would a machine using Snow Leopard suffice or should I upgrade it to Mountain Lion ? Can I upgrade to mountain Lion and if so what are the benefits of doing this ?

Also if you were buying a 21" iMac which of these would you go for

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm no PS expert, but it should run fine on SL. if you want to upgrade to ML it'll cost you 15 quid, and any of the adverts you listed should be fine for ML.

of the ads you listed, the first one has 16gb of ram, which is always good for PS, but is the oldest. the third has 1TB of storage vs the firsts 500gb so thats a plus.

If it were me, i'd go for the newer, try and get the price down, and use the saving to buy more ram and install it yourself. On those imacs its very easy:

use memoryc to shop for ram, 16gb for an imac would be about 80 quid at a guess. memoryc are an irish company and have next day delivery.
