    I'd be thinking about 12k!
I'm going to have look at few those so

I'm still deliberating whether to forgot about it and stay driving my trusty HDi 406 :D

    I'd have the Accord over

The Lexus, because it's reputation for reliability isn't that good and it's quite small inside, and it's going on 8 years old as a model now

The Skoda, because although it's undoubtedly a lot of bang per buck, it's still an Octavia

The Mondeo, because I just don't like them, and they're very common

now, I wouldn't mind a Legacy, but they interior isn't that nice, and they're still a bit pricey.

XF would be lovely though. not sure about maintainance costs.

Accord stands in a sort of niche area, not RWD, not the same size as a Mondeo etc, not very popular, and not thought of in the same way as an A4 etc.

    I think that's why I like them.

It'd be between the Legacy and the Accord for me, from that list.

That pretty much sums up exactly what I was thinking my parents have an 11 reg Octavia elegance and it's a lovely lovely car but just doesn't do it for me!

If I'm going to spend that kinda money on a car I really want to get something I want rather than settling for the next best thing

Steer clear of the BMWs anyway. Friend of mine has a 3 year old 5 series: the window winder motor packed up on the driver's side and the passenger side one was making peculiar noises. Replaced both at a cost of...wait for it...€1,400.

The Renault cars of 10 to 15 years ago were more reliable.

But you have to admire the marketing department of BMW.

Errrrr..... That doesn't really effect the driving performance

I don't agree with Renaults being more reliable, I considered using one as Christmas decorations with the fun electrics they have

I've got one. It's a step up from the iCdti in pretty much every single way, except its a bit thirstier.

Its happy as a motorway cruiser but it becomes quite dynamic on narrow roads whereas the last model had a lot of body roll. It really seems to hunker down on the twisty roads.

The icdti gave me 52mpg on my 80 mile daily round trip but I'm more like 48mpg with this. It is a bit bigger though and a small bit more powerful.

I thought about a Lexus IS220d and an A4 before getting the Accord but the Lexus seemed small inside and the gearing seemed 'wrong' and it was a bit 'Toyota-ish' for the cost while the A4 seemed too small and 'bland' inside.

As well as that, the Accord just looked a nicer car to me and has a lot of 'extra's' as standard compared to the other two.

But it does affect the performance of your bank balance.

Maybe not a consideration for you, but the rest of us have to be conscious of it.
Or maybe you are a BMW dealer, cleaning up on servicing / repairs.

Sounds like a dealer made a fool of your friend for a window regulator and maybe a motor! And the point about Renault cars being more reliable? No. Maybe cheaper to maintain. But not more reliable.

You should look at the mans post history now. He normally pulls a gear box out of some french marque before his cereal.;-)

I have an 08 new model accord since Jan 09 and haven't had any bother with it except for a sticking back brake that the Honda garage didn't sort where my own mechanic did. Which makes me worry about the Honda mechanic not the car!

The extras with the Exec model I have really add to the car. Rains sensing wiper, Automatic headlights, Auto-dimming rear view mirror, Parking sensors and reversing camera and most of all the high quality electric seats are really excellent.

Good on the road, maybe a little hard on back roads but a pleasure on good roads. Good road holding that I only appreciated after driving a Passat. Passat seemed spongy and rolling around the place by comparison.
Good on frost also, but the car is almost 2 ton in weight! It might also explain why I think he car is heavy on tyres.
Diesel does about 45/gallon but that is mixed driving and I have a heavy foot.

Lexus is a good car but I found it cramped inside as is the BMW 3 series.

One thing that has gone on the Accord is the front speakers, this is a known problem on the accord and I am out of warranty now. So it will cost about €120 to sort. If you buy then check it out.

The accord has a timing chain, these can get noisy and need replacing (even though the shoudn't). The 2004 Diesels had this problem, but if the car is serviced properly it shouldn't be an issue.

One of my family has a Renult Grand Scenic and the Turbo, Gearbox and other bits have had to be replaced at about 100,000 km. Would never touch a Renault now.

Exactly the type of comment I was after answered pretty much everything and honestly! The 04 accords only got a noisy timing chain mostly due to poor servicing schedules there were other factors but that was the bigger one which would prevent it! All in all they seem to be pretty decent only thing is now so many cars in from the north and Britain it's hard to know what your buying!

Really need to start thinking now decisions :D
