Pick-me-up

Well lads a question for the dog men here. Does anybody have their own recipe for any pick me ups for their working dogs. I run springers myself and they are hard hunting. I pride myself in having my dogs in top condition health and fitness wise. I am sure other lads notice that after a real hard day of hunting the following day the dogs would be stiff and sore. I usually feed a few raw eggs but I am sure others have their own recipes for a good pick me up the following day for sore muscles etc.

Anybody care to share their recipes?

I just let my lads rest for a few days, the following day or 2 I bring them out for a light run of 10-15 mins.

During the season i put them on a higher protein food, but always put some cod liver oil in the food as well as the raw egg.
I use a tin of butchers food in with the dry food ,they lick the bowls clean and the coats are in great nick.
I dry the dogs down a bit when they get back to the jeep as well.
This is over the top but because mine are in and out the house i give them a warm shower when i bring them home from the field  ,wash all the muck and **** and dirt off them.
Mine get two half hour runs every day down the park and they sleep in an insulated dog box in an insulated shed but that heat lamp is a great idea if its cold out .
I look after my dogs more now because i have seen over the years how easy the arthritis and stiffness sets in too early on a dog if they are left wet and cold. But the bit of rest is the best cure for the tiredness and sore muscles.

A big slice of good home-made plumb pudding with an aspirin in it. You'll get another good 90 minutes of hunting out of the dog.
The next day, soak his meal in warm milk and some good quality oil (Like cod-liver etc) for about 30 minutes before you give it to him and he'll be just fine.

Just in case someone tries that I'd say make sure there's no raisins in it - fairly toxic to dogs.

You also need to get your dosage right for aspirin - one tablet could be too much for a small dog. Can cause serious damage - plenty of info about on it.

Have a look for peak condition it was a powder I used when working dogs hard. Came in a powder format added to their meals and I had good results with it.
