Just noticed that there are ads on rte today despite it being Christmas. I don't remember seeing any before except programme reminders but today there's Bulmers and esb ads. When did this start happening?

CASH-STRAPPED RTE will run TV ads on Christmas Day for the first time in a bid to raise badly-needed revenue.

The national broadcaster, which has been hit hard by the recession, revealed it would run the festive slots on RTE One during Fair City and Mrs Brown’s Boys.

RTE has never run ads on Christmas Day but its flagging finances have prompted Montrose bosses to change that tradition this year.

The Feckers. I don't really care about the adverts, but RTE not showing adverts on Christmas Day was always a piece of Christmas trivia which most people didn't realise, that you could roll out when necessary.

Now that is gone forever. Damn you RTE. Maybe the ghosts of Christmas past started to curse you with technical gremlins during the Sports Awards. Who knows what technical terrors await you in this Christmas week?
You will reap what you have sown.

I have to say I never noticed a lack of ads on RTE for Christmas Day.

I was qwer peeved when I copped the ads on Christmas Day on RTE. One thing I always liked was you could record a film on Christmas Day and not worry about the bleedin adverts interspersed through it :(
