Hi i need to pull about 5 4by6 sq swa cables through red 125mm ducting, the duct is 100 mts long with 2 long radius bends on it also.We have pulled in the first one by hand using a draw rope but it became very very hard over the last 20 meters and dont think we wolud manage the rest this way.Is there a winch available for this purpose and if so where can it be hired or bought from, thanks

O.k. a break from the toy building this morning. You need a string light one but. Strong enough to pull the swa cable when needed. You need a cork and a vacuum cleaner, the rest is obvious and it works. Suck through the cork once it is tied to the rope. Tie to the cable and it is a 2an job but simple.
Sorry just read the rest of ur post lubrication is mext

If I read this correctly you intend to pull 5 cables through a single duct?
    Please confirm.

If this is the case and it is possible the best chance you will have is to pull all 5 through in one go. When doing this it is easier if the cables are staggered.

If possible get someone to hit the duct repeatedly with a piece of wood at the point where the rope joins the cables as it is being pulled. This will help move it along.

Yes need five four core by six square cables in a 125mm red duct. The duct is buried a few feet in the ground so unfortunately tapping the side of it is not an option

is it 100m straight duct with a bend at each end?

Yes the duct is about 90 meters straight with a long radius 90 degree bend at each end, I think it was put in this way to avoid tree roots which would have been in the way if it was dug in a straight line

Greenlee make a cable tugger. We bought one but I'm sure they can be got on rent.

Have been know to tie pull ropes to quads/jeeps/ diggers at times when pulling long runs. Special swivel couplings can be purchased that break before enough force is applied to damage the cable.

If its into a building your going thats no use though.

Pull the five at once staggering the cables if you have trefolex/babypowder etc at hand lube them after. I hope you know how to do a good knots that get tighter the harder you pull.

I think we have all been there having the last cable slip off near the end of a long run:mad: One way of making sure you won't make that mistake again:pac:

Ok, as stated earlier your best chance is to pull them all in together.
You may need to put in access points at the bends.
    Good luck!

a capstan winch might help with the rope pulling ,the armour of the swa could be stripped back and the start of the cable to reduce its size slightly

All 5 together will go in easy enough if you have a decent pulling method. Individual pulls can cause a fair bit of difficulty.
